Walt Disney Elementary School, located in Alvin, Texas, suffered significant damage during last weekend's storms. The roof of the building was severely compromised, with heavy roofing panels blown off and strewn around the premises. Staff and volunteers are now faced with the daunting task of clearing debris and assessing what can be salvaged ahead of the students' return from winter break.

Community Comes Together to Support Educators

In light of the destruction, the Alvin ISD Education Foundation has initiated a donation campaign to assist teachers and staff who lost vital educational resources and personal items. Community members are encouraged to lend a helping hand, whether through monetary donations or offers of supplies. The swift collective action could make a significant difference in restoring the school's functionality ahead of the new term.

Urgent Need for Support as School Year Approaches

With the start of the new school term approaching post-winter break, the urgency for assistance in Alvin cannot be overstated. Local city officials, alongside the school administration, are actively collaborating to ensure schools are ready to reopen safely. As reported by school representatives, educators are hopeful for a rapid recovery, though ongoing efforts to clean up and restore will need community involvement to succeed.

As cleanup continues across Houston after recent severe storms, one of the hardest-hit areas, Alvin, Texas, is actively seeking assistance. The storms wreaked havoc on Walt Disney Elementary School in Boria County, resulting in substantial damage, particularly to its roof. The school staff members are racing against time to replace essential teaching materials and personal items lost during the chaos before students return from winter break. In a bid to aid the recovery efforts, the Alvin Independent School District (ISD) Education Foundation has established a donation site for community members wishing to contribute. Local officials and educators express gratitude that the storm occurred when students were away, but stress the pressing need for support as the school prepares to welcome back its students.

Something something, state surplus, billions of dollars in 2024...Seems like Governor Abbott has money he can help with. Why should the community have to pitch in when their taxes are sitting in the states bank account? Use that!

@safetychuck2

Dont the residents of Alvin pay taxes for their schools? Why are they hitting up the residents for more money, and why are teachers using personal funds to supply their classes?

@Trollzarefunny

That’s what taxes are for

@Big_Island_Boi

Uh... nope. The county and school district already extorts (and wastes) billions from us every year. I wouldnt donate 10 cents to these clowns.

@fragilecadaver

the government isnt gonna help give money to the individual teachers who lost personal property (supplies, classroom decor, etc). this is why teachers are asking for donations. the government should be helping pay for the reconstruction of the building but the staff and teachers still have things lost that wont get paid back..

@kbrown5218

The school district has insurance. They should have funds within the insurance to cover teachers personal investments. Teachers do spend a lot of personal funds on certain supplies. Back in the old days thats what Parent Teacher Organizations did. They helped with fund raising. Today not so much.

@Acompony

My tax money should be paying / OR SHOULD I SAY THE GOVERNMENT

@twoistwo

Good thing the school has insurance.

@HannibalTheDragon

Abbott should be the one stepping in to help

@MakaylaS-o8g
