The elderly community in SoA is particularly affected by the recent mandate from the Electricity Minister regarding prepaid meter upgrades. Many of these individuals, like a 65-year-old granny who camped outside the Eksom office since the early hours, illustrate the struggles faced by older citizens. Unable to access modern technology or online platforms, they are left with no choice but to queue for assistance in person.
As the deadline looms, the situation outside Eksom offices has escalated, with long lines forming as residents anxiously await their turn for upgrades. Reports indicate that some individuals have been waiting since Monday, highlighting the urgency and desperation in the community. The images of residents spending the night at these offices reflect the critical nature of this issue and the inevitable strain on elderly individuals who need help with the upgrading process.
With the deadline rapidly approaching and residents struggling with the upgrade process, community support has become vital. Many elderly residents may not have the technological know-how to utilize online services, leaving them vulnerable. It is crucial for local organizations and individuals to step up and assist these residents in navigating the challenges posed by the meter upgrade requirement, ensuring that no one is left behind.
In a crucial announcement, the Electricity Minister has firmly stated that there will be no extension to the Sunday deadline for prepaid electricity users to upgrade their meters. Residents in SoA have responded by queueing outside Eksom offices, with many facing the uncomfortable reality of sleeping there to ensure they can upgrade in time. The situation has become a significant issue, especially for the elderly who find it challenging to navigate the technology required for online upgrades. As frustrations rise, community support for these individuals is essential.Yesterday they lied and told old people they were offline and they should go home when systems was slow..
They is no need for all this queue drama. People should have paid for their electricity like the rest of us. Pensioners even get discounts.

Why do the youth allow for their grandparents to be standing in ques for days like this. Why they dont stand in line for their grandparents?
most of these people were illegally connected or bypassed the grid. eskom told people about this since october nobody listened becoz they are not paying for igezi. had they been paying for their power they could have upgraded a long time ago. some didnt allow the eskom agents to help them when they were moving door to door
