The Franklin Fire incident continues to evolve, as the CAL FIRE Incident Management Team provided an update during their 6 PM press briefing. Incident Commander Dusty Martin announced that the fire has currently consumed 4,035 acres, with containment at 7%. Thankfully, favorable weather conditions have allowed personnel to make significant progress in battling the flames. However, a wind change is anticipated tomorrow, raising concerns about fire direction changes. Martin stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of the area before allowing the 6,300 evacuated residents to return to their homes, emphasizing that this remains their top priority. In addition to containment efforts, Deputy Fire Chief Albert Yanagi Salo shared figures related to the damage caused by the Franklin Fire. Inspections have revealed that out of a 25% evaluation area, 6 structures have been damaged and 9 have been destroyed. This thorough inspection reflects the hard work of specialized teams who persevered through challenging conditions to document the extent of the damage. Authorities wish to express their gratitude for the dedication shown by firefighters and emergency personnel and urged residents to remain patient as recovery efforts continue. Sheriff's Captain Jennifer C2 provided an update on the law enforcement response. Currently, about 120 deputies are actively assisting, and several road closures are in effect around the fire-affected regions. Notably, Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road are under strict restrictions, with efforts focused on maintaining safety and security for all residents. With 20,000 citizens affected by evacuation orders, C2 reassured residents that the authorities are working diligently to reopen roads and to facilitate a safe return home. In this ongoing crisis, clear communication and correct information from credible sources remain essential.
